Thousands protest against new waqf law in Karnataka’s Bellary

Thousands joined the massive protest led by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Bellary branch, on Monday, to demand the revocation of the Union government’s Waqf (Amendment) Act.

“The Waqf Amendment Act that the central government wants to implement is an attack on the Constitution. This is an attempt to snatch the rights of minorities. We will not let this Act be implemented,” said Congress leader and Bellary Rural MLA B Nagendra.

“I have faith in the Supreme Court. The state government is with the Muslims. We will not allow Prime Minister Modi to play foul in Karnataka. I will not bow my head before Modi,” he said.

Bellary MLA Nara Bharath Reddy said: “Muslims have sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. Now we will fight for the rights of Muslims by pledging our lives.”
