Three migrant workers killed Friday morning after a dilapidated two-storey building collapsed in Kerala’s Thrissur district.

The deceased have been identified as Rahul (19), Rupel (21), and Aleem (30) — all hailing from Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul was pulled out alive but succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Rupel's and Aleem's bodies recovered from the rubble.

Local residents, along with police and fire and rescue teams, launched an intensive search operation at dawn.

The century-old structure, built with laterite stones, housed migrant workers and is located near a panchayat office in Kodakara.

The building reportedly crumbled around 6 a.m., shortly before the workers were about to leave for work. Heavy rains over the past few days are believed to have weakened the building, leading to the collapse.

The building housed 17 migrant workers. Fourteen of them managed to escape unhurt, while three were trapped under the debris. Though the search and rescue team retrieved them, all of them succumbed to injuries.
