Hamas says Netanyahu 'unwilling' to reach Gaza ceasefire deal

Hamas has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of not wanting to reach a deal to end the genocidal war on Gaza, as talks in Qatar entered a second week.

"[Prime Minister Benjamin ] Netanyahu is adept at thwarting one round of negotiations after another, and he does not want to reach any agreement," the Palestinian group said on its Telegram channel.

“The criminal Netanyahu is plunging his army and his entity into a futile war with no prospects. Its continuation not only threatens the lives of prisoners and soldiers, but also portends a strategic catastrophe for his entity,” Hamas said.

Mediators have been attempting to bridge gaps between Israeli and Hamas delegations, an official with knowledge of the negotiations told AFP.

"Mediators are actively exploring innovative mechanisms to help bridge the remaining gaps and maintain momentum in the negotiations," the official said on Monday.

Egyptian state-affiliated Al-Qahera News channel, citing unnamed sources, said Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad met with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani as part of Egypt’s broader push to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said a ceasefire alone is not enough, and urged world leaders to pursue a broader political solution that includes a viable Palestinian state.
