Indian-origin woman raped in UK in racially motivated attack

According to West Midlands Police, an Indian-origin woman in her 20s was raped in the Park Hall area of Walsall, with the incident coming to light on Saturday after officers responded to reports of a distressed woman found on the street following a sexually aggravated assault.

West Midlands Police have since released CCTV footage of the suspected perpetrator and appealed to residents for assistance in identifying him.

Police said they were called just after 7:15 p.m. on October 25 to reports of a distressed woman found in the street. It was later established that she had been raped and assaulted at a nearby property by a man she did not know.

According to the police statement, the suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, with short hair, and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the assault.

Officers have released CCTV footage of the man and issued an urgent appeal for information to help identify him.

“This was an absolutely appalling attack on a young woman, and we are doing absolutely everything we can to arrest the person responsible,” said Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer, who is overseeing the investigation.

Tyrer added that multiple lines of inquiry are being pursued and appealed for public assistance. “Your information could be the vital breakthrough that we need,” he said, urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.

He also confirmed that, at this stage, the attack is not being linked to any other offences.

Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby said that officers have been engaging with the community to address fears following the assault. “Walsall is a diverse area, and we know the fear and concern that this awful attack will cause. There will be an increased police presence in the coming days,” he said.

According to West Midlands Police, anyone with information should contact them via 101 or Live Chat, quoting log 4027 of 25 October.

Reacting to the incident, Dabinderjit Singh OBE, Lead Executive of the Sikh Federation (UK), said, “We can now confirm from local sources that the young woman subjected to a racially aggravated rape in Walsall is of Punjabi heritage. This follows the racially aggravated rape of a young Sikh woman on 9 September in Oldbury.”

“The attacker apparently followed her and broke down the door of the house where she was living. He was heard using the offensive P and B words during the rape. A neighbour also heard her screams during the vicious attack,” he said.

MP Zarah Sultana took to X, stating, “These horrifying attacks show how racism and misogyny feed each other,” fuelled by the rise of fascism and hate.”

“As a woman of colour, I know how real and frightening this threat is,” she said, urging, “We must stand together, against racism, fascism, and misogyny, and fight for a socialist society built on equality, justice, and solidarity.”

MP Preet Kaur Gill expressed “shock,” saying she was “deeply shocked and saddened that we are hearing of yet another racially aggravated rape, this time in Walsall.”

“The repeated pattern of violence against women in our region, compounded by hate and racial overtones, is deeply disturbing,” she said.

This marks the second racially motivated rape in the region within weeks, following a similar attack on a Sikh woman in Oldbury last month, drawing condemnations from MPs Preet Kaur Gill and Zarah Sultana over rising hate-fueled violence against South Asian women.
