10 dead, 27 wounded in Canada school mass shooting

At least 10 individuals were killed on Tuesday, February 10, after a shooter opened fire at a secondary school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia (BC), in Canada. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said it responded to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School at approximately 1:20 pm, following reports of an active shooter.
Six victims were found dead inside the school, police reported, along with multiple injured, including two who were airlifted to the hospital with serious or life‑threatening injuries, and a third one, who died while being transported to the hospital.
Approximately 25 other victims were being evaluated for non‑life‑threatening injuries as of Tuesday evening.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney shared a statement on social media expressing his “prayers and deepest condolences” to the “families and friends” who “lost loved ones” in the Tumbler Ridge shootings.
“I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today, and in gratitude for the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens,” he said.
An individual believed to be the shooter was also found dead at the scene from what police said appeared to be a self‑inflicted injury. Two more victims were found deceased in a secondary, residential location “believed to be connected to the incident,” the RMCP said.
In a press conference, Superintendent Ken Floyd, who acts as the North District Commander for the BC RCMP, said information about the shooter and victims, including their age, identity, and possible connection, was not being released as police continued to investigate the incident.
“The scene was very dramatic, and there are multiple victims that are still being cared for,” Floyd said.
An alert, which was issued around 1:20 pm, was cancelled at 5:30 pm, when police deemed there no longer was any ongoing threat to the public.
