India's ‘Boong’ wins BAFTA award for Best Children’s & Family Film

Manipuri film Boong made history on Sunday by winning the BAFTA for Best Children's and Family Film. Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, the film explores the journey of a schoolboy, Boong, who navigates racial tensions and border challenges in Manipur, driven by resilience and determination to reunite his divided family.

Arco, Lilo and Stitch and Zootropolis 2 were among the other nominations.

In her acceptance speech, Devi reminded the audience of the conflict in her homeland, Manipur, and shared the hope of forgiveness among people fighting each other.

The film is backed by Farhan Akhtar. Boong stars child actor Gugun Kipgen in the title role. He is a Kuki-Zo tribal boy playing a Meitei character in the film.
