Indonesia becomes south-east Asian country with most Covid19 cases
Indonesia has reported 407 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases to 5,923 and surpassing the Philippines as the country with the highest number of novel coronavirus infections in south-east Asia.
The death toll increased by 244 to 520 whereas the number of recovered patients increased by 59 to 607.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s government has been accused of failing to act quickly, after initially downplaying the threat of the virus in the country.
Health experts observed that the overstretched health system, a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), and minimal rapid testing contributed to the high number of coronavirus deaths in the country.
The world's fourth-most populous country reported its first two coronavirus cases on March 2.
