The Puducherry legislative assembly on Monday passed a resolution seeking full statehood for Puducherry.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said that already nine resolutions were passed in this regard since 1987 and forwarded to the union governments.

"The government elected by the people should have full powers as they are responsible to answer to the people," CM said in the house.

He also claimed that in certain situation, central government nominees used to act against democratic norms by misusing powers.

According to the CM, the Puducherry received grant to the tune of 80 percent of the budget. However, it was gradually reduced and presently, the UT is getting only 20 percent, resulting in a huge financial crisis.
