Writer Meena Kandasamy on Wednesday received Kalaignar MU Karunanidhi Porkizhi Award from Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin.

Author Meena Kandasamy on Wednesday received Kalaignar MU Karunanidhi Porkizhi Award from Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin.

The award was presented during the inauguration of the 45th Chennai Book Fair organised by Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI).

Writer, poet, translator and activist, Meena Kandasamy has authored critically acclaimed works of poetry, prose and translation such as the Gypsy Goddess, This Poem Will Provoke You, When I Hit You, Exquisite Cadavers, The Orders were to Rape You and Women, Dreaming.

Stalin also presented the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Porkizhi Award to journalist and author Samas, Prasanna Ramaswamy, Aasai Thambi, R. Vennila and Paul Zachariah. He also presented BAPASI Awards to Meenakshi Somasundaram, Ravi Thamizhvanan, Ponnazaghu, Thiruvai Babu, Devira and Bharathi Baskar.
