Curfew in Rajasthan’s Karauli after clashes during Hindu rally

Curfew was imposed in Rajasthan's Karauli city on Saturday after violence broke out during a bike rally by Hindu outfits passing through a Muslim-dominated area.

Dozens of shops and automobiles were set on fire after some people from the rally allegedly pelted stones at the mosque while passing it.

About 20 people sustained injuries, some of them are minors.

Hindu outfits were celebrating Nav Samvatsar, The new year under the Hindu calendar. According to videos circulated online islamophobic songs were put on high volume in the procession.

Karauli administration wrote a letter to the Bharatpur divisional commissioner, requesting that internet services be suspended in the district till April 3 at midnight.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has directed that all guilty be dealt with strictly, The Indian Express reported.

Gehlot also appealed to the public to maintain peace.
