Assam: Teacher sent to jail for carrying beef to school
The Assam police have arrested a teacher of a government school in western Assam’s Goalpara district for allegedly carrying beef to school.
Beef is not banned in Assam.
Dalima Nessa, the arrested teacher, was sent to judicial custody by a Goalpara court, The Hindu reported.
According to the newspaper, Nessa is the headmistress of the Hurkachungi Middle English School in the district’s Lakhipur area.
Nessa was questioned by the police and arrested after a colleague complained that she had brought beef for lunch during an official function in school last week.
Nessa was booked under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence) and 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to The Indian Express.
