After a complaint from the Indian government, YouTube took down Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu aka Sidhu Moosewala's new song from its platform. The song is available in other countries.

This is the first song released after the murder of the Punjabi singer on 29 May. Released on 23 June, the song crossed 2.7 Crore views within 3 days.

SYL brings up the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal which has been a controversial issue as it has been claimed by Punjab and Haryana for the past 40 years.

It also puts into the limelight the 1984 Sikh genocide, the flag hoisting at the Red Fort during the farmer protests, and asking for the release of Sikh prisoners languishing in jail.

“The content is not available on this country domain due to a legal complaint from the government,” says the YouTube page where the song once played.

“We have clear policies for removal requests from governments around the world. We review government removal requests when notified through the correct legal processes, and also review content for violations of our Community Guidelines. And, where appropriate, we restrict or remove content in keeping with local laws and our Terms of Service after a thorough review. All of these requests are tracked and included in our Transparency Report.” said a YouTube spokesperson to Indian Express.
