Yogesh Maitreya wins NISSIM PRIZE for English Prose 2023

Author Yogesh Maitreya has won the NISSIM PRIZE for English Prose 2023 (Special Mention) for his book "B R Ambedkar- A Life in Books.”

The book which he had written for children in 2022, was published by Pratham Books.

Maitreya is a poet, writer and founder of the publishing house Panther*s Paw.

"Recognitions like this award make me hopeful, not as a writer, but for subjects that are being historically denied today. If these stories are being acknowledged by people from all walks of life, it means our literature is reaching where it is supposed to," Mid-Day quotes Maitreya as saying.

Yogesh is also a PhD scholar at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai), working on the history of anti-caste music in the state of Maharashtra.
