One killed during communal violence in Maharashtra’s Akola

One person was killed and several others were injured after a violent clash broke out between groups of two communities over a social media post in Maharashtra’s Akola district Saturday night.

Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) across the district Sunday morning.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 10.30 pm. The police registered three separate cases of rioting and detained 30 people so far.

According to ANI, Collector Neema Arora and SP Sandeep Ghuge held a peace committee meeting on Sunday. The meeting was attended by representatives of all religions and communities and leaders of political parties.

Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghuge (Akola) said, “A person from one community uploaded a post on Instagram. It hurt the sentiment of the people from another religion, after which people from both the communities confronted each other.”

Several vehicles were also damaged in the incident. The police had to use tear gas to disperse the rioters. Two police officials also sustained injuries in the clash.
