Manipur: Soldier on leave abducted, killed in Imphal

An army man on leave was abducted from his home in Imphal and later found shot dead by unidentified assailants on Sunday. Serto Thangthang Kom was with the Defence Service Corps (DSC) and was attached to 302 Company, Army Service Corps (ASC), in Leimakhong, Manipur, The Indian Express reported.

Kom was abducted by three armed men from his home in Tarung, in Imphal West’s Happy Valley around 10 AM on Saturday. His 10-year-old son was the only eyewitness to the crime.

He was from Manipur’s Kom tribe, which is separate from the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities which have been engaging in armed conflict since May.

Kom is survived by his wife, daughter and son.
