Mohan Yadav to be Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen Mohan Yadav, a 58-year-old leader from the Yadav Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
On Monday evening, Yadav was chosen as the leader of the BJP's legislative party, marking a significant development just 15 days after the party triumphed over the Congress to secure victory in Madhya Pradesh.
"I thank all of you... state and central leadership (and), with your love and support, I will try to fulfill my responsibilities," Yadav said after the meeting of the MLAs.
A three-time MLA from Ujjain, Yadav is also the outgoing Higher Education Minister.
Commencing his political journey in 1982 as the co-secretary of the Madhav Science College Student Union, Mohan Yadav ascended to the presidency in 1984; subsequently, he served as the Ujjain president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) from 1984 to 1986, further solidifying his ties with the Hindutva militant group, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), as he advanced within the ABVP and later the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
The BJP also named two deputy chief ministers - Jagdish Devda and Rajesh Shukla.
Tomar, one of three former cabinet members to contest the election, is the Assembly Speaker.
