Odisha: Newborn girl dumped in borewell rescued

A newborn girl was rescued after she had allegedly been dumped inside a borewell in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Tuesday, The Indian Express reported.

The abandoned borewell is located in Laripali village, and locals first heard the baby’s cries. The baby is only a few days old as per reports.

A team of over 40 Odisha fire service and disaster response personnel coordinated the rescue operations.

The baby was stuck at a depth of around 20 feet. Three excavators were engaged to dig a parallel pit of the same depth. Electric cutters were used to cut the borewell’s iron pipe and rescue the infant.
