Google employees arrested protesting company’s ties with Israel

Employees of the tech giant Google have been arrested after holding sit-in protests in the company’s New York and Sunnyvale, California offices for more than nine hours.

The protesters said they would not leave until Google pulls out of a $1.2bn artificial intelligence and surveillance contract between Israel, Google and Amazon.

The protesters took over Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian's California office and occupied the space for over 8 hours.

The ‘notech4apartheid’ video shows a man informing the employees that they've been put on administrative leave before he asks them to leave voluntarily. To which, the protesters refused, leading to their arrest by the police.

Google employees have long spoken out against project “Nimbus”, with Palestinian employees describing “institutionalised bias” within the company.

Meanwhile, eleven people, including children, have been killed in an Israeli air attack on the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza as Israel continues its bombardment of the Palestinian territory.

At least 33,843 Palestinians have been killed and 76,575 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7.
