Exit polls predict hat-trick for Narendra Modi

Exit polls anticipate a third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears set for a resounding victory in the general elections, according to a range of prominent national exit polls released after the conclusion of the six-week-long Lok Sabha polls.

All ten major exit polls forecast a decisive win for the BJP, with some even projecting a two-thirds majority for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 543-member House.

The projections suggest that the BJP is poised to surpass its 2019 tally, potentially reaching 350 seats, while its main rival, the Congress, is expected to secure fewer than 75 seats.

Ahead of the release of the exit polls, members of the INDIA alliance convened in Delhi, where Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge stated that their bloc was poised to secure over 295 seats based on discussions with their leaders.

He emphasised that this was gleaned from a people's survey, cautioning against relying solely on government surveys and media projections which may inflate figures.

“This is a survey of people. People have given this information to our leaders. The government surveys are there and their media friends also inflate figures and put it out. Therefore, we want to tell you about the reality,” Kharge said.
