Himachal Pradesh bypolls: Congress wins two, BJP takes one

The Congress party achieved significant victories by winning two out of the three contested assembly constituencies in the Himachal Pradesh bypolls.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife, Kamlesh Thakur, emerged victorious in the Dehra constituency, while the party also secured the Nalagarh seat. The BJP, on the other hand, managed to win in Hamirpur.
With all ten rounds of counting completed for the Dehra seat, Kamlesh Thakur of the Congress party secured a decisive victory, defeating her nearest rival by over 9,000 votes.
This victory is seen as a strong endorsement of CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s leadership and the party’s influence in the region.
In Hamirpur, BJP candidate Ashish Sharma won over Congress candidate Dr. Pushpinder Verma.
Reacting to the bypoll results, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his gratitude to the people of Himachal Pradesh for their continued support.
"People of Himachal gave us 40 seats in 2022. The kind of poaching that happened in state politics in the past, people have given a befitting reply for that. This also gave a message that the people of the state are aware and awake and such poaching will not work," he said.
He emphasized the significance of the Dehra victory, stating, "I had put in my everything for the Dehra constituency. I want to congratulate Kamlesh Thakur for winning the seat. The reason for fielding my wife from Dehra was to make Congress enter Kangra and increase the MLAs of the valley from 9 to 10. All the three seats are a stronghold of BJP and we have won two of them, this is a big deal."
Kamlesh Thakur, elated by her win in Dehra, acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the party leaders and workers.
"The party leaders and workers worked day and night for this day. I will give all credit to the people who stood by the party throughout. I am proud of the people of Dehra," she stated.
