Tripura floods: 24 dead, over 1 lakh rendered homeless

At least 24 people have been killed, and two are missing, with nearly 1.28 lakh people left homeless and relocated to shelters across various parts of the north eastern state after severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall over the past week in Tripura.
The flood situation is improving slowly in the state as the rainfall in the past 24 hours has decreased, with water levels in all rivers except Gomati at Sonamura in Sepahijala district going below the danger level on Friday, said officials.
Since 19 August, the government has formed 558 relief camps to shelter the homeless.
A loss of nearly Rs.5,000 crore has been reported due to the floods as per initial estimates.
