Qatar's Emir says what is happening in region ‘collective genocide’

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Wednesday what’s happening in the region is “collective genocide” and has warned of Israel’s “impunity” as it turns Gaza into an “uninhabitable place”. He called for the international community to take action to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression on Lebanon and Gaza, noting that his country will continue mediation efforts to end the war on the besieged Palestinian Gaza Strip.

Sheikh Tamim was giving a joint press conference with Iran’s President who arrived in Qatar on Wednesday, a day after Tehran launched a large-scale missile attack on various sites in the occupying state.

Israel strongly objects to accusations it is committing genocide in Gaza, where it launched an assault a year ago after Palestinian resistance groups attacked southern Israeli towns, killing 1,200 people and capturing more than 250 hostages. Over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza with over 20,000 people missing.

“A two-state solution, the establishment of an independent viable Palestinian state within the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital is the key to a lasting peace in the region,” Qatar’s leader told a news conference at the Asia Cooperation Dialogue in Doha.

“We call for serious ceasefire efforts in stopping Israel’s aggression against Lebanon,” he added.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned of a strong response from Tehran to any further Israeli actions against it.
