Palestinian footballer Wissam Abu Ali, currently playing for Egypt’s Al Ahly Club, went viral on social media after celebrating a goal in a manner that resembled former Hamas chief and tall Palestinian leader Yahya Sinwar.

Abu Ali marked his goal against UAE's Al Ain FC on Tuesday during the Intercontinental Cup match, which concluded with a 3-0 victory for Al Ahly.

After scoring around the 30-minute mark, Abu Ali ran to the corner of the field, where he sat down in a pose reminiscent of a widely circulated image of Yahya Sinwar, showing him seated on a sofa, smiling, with one leg crossed over the other.

The last moments of Sinwar, which depicts him holding a stick in a defiant gesture toward an Israeli drone, has become a symbol of resistance for many.

Sinwar was injured in an airstrike and later killed by Israeli occupation forces on October 16.
