British woman raped in Delhi hotel, two arrested

Delhi Police arrested two men on Tuesday for allegedly raping and molesting a 36-year-old British woman at a hotel in South Delhi’s Mahipalpur area.

“A man was arrested on charges of raping a British woman in a Mahipalpur hotel in Delhi. His accomplice was arrested on charges of molestation. The woman, who was friends with the man through social media, had come to Delhi from the UK to meet him,” Delhi Police said in a statement.

According to police officials, Kailash, a resident of Vasundhara, Mayur Vihar, East Delhi, makes Instagram reels. A month ago, he connected with the woman, a London resident, through the social media platform.

The woman was visiting Maharashtra and Goa when she contacted Kailash and invited him to meet her. However, Kailash expressed his inability to travel and instead asked her to visit Delhi.

After a couple of drinks, he allegedly raped her and then left the hotel.

On Wednesday, the woman visited a hospital after feeling unwell, following which the police were informed about the alleged crime.

The second incident involves a man identified as a member of the housekeeping staff at the hotel, who inappropriately touched her in an elevator.

“Based on her complaint, a case was registered under sections of rape and molestation, and both accused were arrested. They are not related to each other,” said Surendra Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West.

Delhi Police said the British High Commission has also been informed about the incident.

According to NDTV, Kailash works at a private firm. The woman told police that he struggled to speak English and used Google Translate to communicate with her.

Notably, this incident comes days after an Israeli tourist and a homestay owner were gang-raped in Karnataka’s Hampi by three men.
